Rich and Poor
The question came up in class last week about an age old question that our government is still trying to work out today. That is, should you be able to take money from the rich and give it to the poor? Sounds like a fairly logical idea, right? Helping those that are less fortunate, that's a very noble thing. In fact, Jesus led very much so by example in this area. But where should the line be drawn? Should there even be a line drawn in the first place? The current administration has decided to tax the "upper class" more and give to the lower class. Is this fair? Aren't all men created equally? Last time I checked the Declaration of Independence, we were. So that being said, according to our government we are all the same. Good. Then why should one group of people be forced to give to another group whether they want to or not? Yes, we should give to the poor and be generous with what we have been blessed with. Give as Christ would give, share His love. But it is not the governments job to decide that. If the church was doing its job we wouldn't be having this problem today. It's time to rise up Christians! Rest confidently under the security and guidance of our Father's leadership. Take a stand as a follower of Christ, and do what we've been called to do.

I agree with you! It shouldn't be up to the government to decide. They shouldn't be able to say, "We are going to take this much from you because you have been successful, and we are going to give to them because they need it more than you do." We are supposed to give to the poor and needy but it should be up to us to decide what we want to give instead of being told this is how much you have to give. Being told that definitely takes the pleasure away of giving in the first place. So I would have to agree with you all the way.
ReplyDeleteI think that if we are wealthy enough, we should give some of what we have to people less fortunate. God wants us to do that! Instead of spending it on meaningless junk. But, at the same time, the money you have earned is your hard earned money, so I don't think it is right that the government take it away and give it to the poor. I think it should be your choice.
