This week we discussed the political impacts of the Declaration of Rights of Man. Well, for me the most important effect is that due to this document the Independece of Colombia, my country, began to shape!
Everything started when Antonio Narino traveled to France for making different studies. His primary interest was politics and economics. Therefore, after he found out the Declaration of Rights of Man, he made its first translation to spanish and took it back to the Nueva Granada (Former name for the Republic of Colombia). He printed the document out and let everybody know about their rights. Next, he started the "Revolucion Comunera", which was the first sign of discomfort against the Spaniards. This revolution led to "Grito de Independencia" on July 20th, 1811 when we gained our Independence!!!!
It is very interesting how can such a brief document as the Declaration of the Rights of Man make such a great impact, especially taking into account the time when it was written. Communications were not like today's, when you can track any event in the other side of the world by the internet. You can just search whatever you want and gather infinite amounts of information just with a click. So, this document traveled the world in the least amount of time expected, and it just caused amaizing things throughout the world.
