Yesterday in my geography class we went over Europe and why it had (and still has) so much influence over the world for so long. One of the reasons is the sheer numer of people and cultures in such a small area. Having that much variety being able to regularly interact allow the circulation of ideas and beliefs.
We've mentioned this briefly in class: person A influenced person B who influenced peron C, who then went to completely change to world. While we read and study about the past and how we got to this point, I can't help but think about where we are going. As my geography professor put it "the world is shrinking" and now ideas from opposite sides of the world can be exchanged as simply as I'm typing this.
(I commented on Sara Dye's post.)
(P.S. The song's stuck in your head now, isn't it?)

It does make you stop and think, who am I influencing and how is that going to change the world? If you stop and think about how many people have influenced you up to this point in your life, and how many people influenced your influencers, etc. You realize just how small this world really is. I think a lot would change in the way we lived our lives if we stopped to really think about how many people we are influencing and what they will go on to do.
