Before you enter a new post you have to look up in the right hand corner of the UM Uprising homepage and click "New post". Right next to this is an icon that says followers. It caught my attention. It may seem random and incoherent, however, I would like to tip toe around the idea of enlightenment with this word "followers". When I hear "follower" I think "disciple" or "follow the Leader". How many minds of the Enlightenment were either modeling, as a disciple would, after the words and teachings of a theologian or philosopher. How many minds considered themselves extremely independent in their thinking, yet were molded into a mirror image of whomever they followed or agreed with? How many people played "follow the Leader" during the Enlightenment? How many minds and hearts were deceived during this time? I would say in that in one way or another we are all followers, especially as Christians. Regardless, I believe we need to be unique individuals. We need to personalize our faith, our morals and convictions, or behavior, and or speech. Don't believe whomever you hear or whatever you say. Make Truth True to you!

I agree that the majority of our actions are a result of following someone else's example. As children we are taught to model people's actions and even beliefs, but does that leave room for us to cultivate our own minds? I think not. I think it is time that we stop taking orders from others and lead ourselves on the journey of life.
