Free? -dom

According to Dictionary.com, freedom is the state of being free or at liberty rather than in confinement or under physical restraint, but when you think about it, how free is freedom? This question can be interpretted two ways. 1. Is our free country truly free? and 2. How hard must we work to achieve and maintain freedom?

America. The "free-est" country in the world. Is our tolerant, politically correct nation truly free? That is my question to you. A country in which students are not allowed to pray in school, racial quotas must be met, regardless of qualifications, or a country where the Pepsi Company can leave the word God out of the pledge of allegiance. Are these things really that bad? Maybe we should sacrifice some of our freedoms in order to keep others.

" Freedom isn't free." This is a common slogan seen on bumper stickers, t-shirts, and billboards all over America. Never has a saying been more true, but perhaps not in the way they meant it. Our ancestors slaved to give us the necessities and freedoms we enjoy today. Isn't it only logical that we must work together to maintain those freedoms?
