7 days vs..... ?
It was brought up in class last week that in the book of Genesis God created the world in seven days. But a lot of people take this and say that a day to us is 1000 days to God. Which, is biblically correct. So we went on to talk about whether or not God made the world in seven days. And I just wanted to say that I believe he did make the world in seven days. I also believe that a day to us is 1000 days to Him. I just think that God is so powerful he could make the earth in a true, human, seven days. I think if we try to justify science and all this other stuff by saying that God's days are longer, than we are limiting God's glory and power. Now, it makes perfect sense to try to justify science that way. To us, all of that "stuff" out there could not be made in seven days! Thats ridiculous.. in Human standards. A human has a hard time writing an English report in one sitting, let alone imagining the whole universe, and all of the universe's around us, being made in 7 days. But, He is the almighty creator of the universe, why would he not be able to make the earth in seven days? Nothing is impossible to him. I am not saying that anybody who does not believe that he made it in 7 days is wrong, because I have believed that for a while too. But I do believe that he could make anything and everything in a blink of an eye if he wanted too.. He is God.

Oh, By the way, I commented on Sarah Becky's post, "Woe is me".
ReplyDeleteStephanie, I would just like to say I couldn't agree with you more. God is so powerful, so beyond comprehension that we can't even begin to understand His ability. When we begin to try to rework Scripture to fit the mold of science we are compromising our faith and our great God. If we believe God raised Jesus from the dead in three days, why can't we simply believe that He created the world in 6 days and on the 7th He rested? Which seems more improbable? They are equally hard to believe , but for some reason we have an easier time accepting God's New Testament power than His Old Testament power. He's the same God with the same power. Period. Also, think about how many times scientists have been proven wrong and how many times the Bible has been proven wrong? The former numerous times, the latter NEVER. I also think non-believers respect us more for taking the Bible at its word than compromising Scripture to fit whatever they tell us. I know from personal experience. I was the only person one of my friends would listen to about anything related to Christianity because I was the only Christian he had ever heard completely agree with everything the Bible said, especially on this doctrine.
ReplyDeleteI also agree with what you have said! I have had this discussion many times before, and every time the result seems to be the same. Whether God created the world in seven human days, or God days, the fact remains that He is God and He could do it in any amount of time that he wanted. It shows us how awesome our God is that He could create the universe and everything in it at all! With our mere human knowledge we will not be able to truly answer the question of how long it really took him, until we are in Heaven and can ask God ourselves.
ReplyDeleteI tend to agree with you that a day to God is not necessarily 24 hours. I also think it is possible that time was measured differently back then. When I say that I'm referring to the unaturally long lifespan of old testament individuals. Is it not possible that a man who lived 900 years back then would live the equivalent of 80 years now? I'm not saying that this is a direct relationship, I'm just opening the topic for further discussion. :)
ReplyDeleteI completely agree. I also think that no matter how much we try to figure out exactly how long a day was when God created everything, we will never be able to comprehend the awesome power of God. What if, instead of creating the heavens and the earth in 7 days or 7,000 days, God created it in 7 seconds? Or even instantly?
